Split , evacuated tube  solar water heating systems are slightly  more expensive to compare with integrated solar systems because they are more complicated and  an additional cost of circulation pump, intelligent system controller, special valves and fittings make that systems less affordable.

Due to longer distance for heat exchange between solar collector and a water tank, systems are little less efficient in comparison with integrated systems.

But because of the better aesthetic system design (only thin and least visible solar collector situated on the roof, and the water tank  together with all the fittings and a pump are placed inside the house) and is not visible  to the eye, SPLIT solar systems are most welcomed all over the World,  including South African users.

Each SPLIT   System  consist:

- array of  vacuum tubes with three target absorption layers, integrated into manifold (heat exchanger) and fastened to the s/steel or powder coated aluminium  holding frame for rust protection even on coastal installation,

- stainless steel solar  water tank with high density, 60mm thick  polyurethane insulation layer with back up

  electric element and safety valve,

- circulation pump and a intelligent controller (for active pumped installations),

- expansion vessel   for indirect SPCL (closed loop) systems,

Due to a more complex design, the circulation pump and system controller (for active pump versions),  such systems  do require a service plan and minimal  maintenance  during life time.  Payback  period is approximately  4-5 years for the system from the date of installation.

E-Solar range of split solar water heaters are divided into two different models -SPOL (direct, open loop) and SPCL (indirect, closed loop) systems. Each model can be installed with active (pumped) or passive  (thermosiphon) water circulations.

Systems:

  • Easy plug-in installation.

  • Free maintenance.

  • Suitable for mains pressure water (up to 8 bar).

  • Stable solar conversion during the day.

  • The ideal  solar water heating system  for commercial  and domestic use.

  • Frame & stand material: 1.2mm thick  s/steel or aluminium.

  • Life expectation 25 years.

  • Intelligent system control  for full  automatic operation.

  • For areas where there is no risk of freezing. ( >-100C )Recirculation freeze protection can be provided by the recirculation feature of the  intelligent controller.

In  Open Loop (direct) Water Heating System, cold  water   flows  from the  bottom of the water tank  through  collector, absorbs the heat from the manifold (heat exchanger)  and  hot water returns into the tank, where it's stored in upper side of the tank. That process repeats itself  hundreds of times during the day and the water temperature  inside the tank will rise from 20C0 up to 80C0  in a single day.

An Open Loop system  provides many advantages. It is the simplest and typically the least expensive active system to install. There is no heat exchanger inside the tank, which allows efficient heat transfer directly to the water. The system operates at standard line pressure. It is simple to add capacity to the system if demand changes. The system integrates easily with existing hot water systems.

SPOL systems are suitable only for an single  heating applications  such:

  • hot water supply  for domestic or commercial use  or

  • hot water supply  for central heating system or

  • hot water supply  for under floor heating or

  • hot water supply  for swimming pool heating.

  • Life expectation 25 years.

  • Intelligent system control  for full  automatic operation.

  • Freeze protection  provided by the antifreeze and if needed the recirculation feature of the controller.

  • Freezing is the minimal concern for these series.

In  Closed Loop (indirect) Water Heating System,  antifreeze trapped in closed   copper pipeline  flows  through  collector and a heat exchanger installed inside the water tank absorbs the heat from the  collector manifold (heat exchanger). When hot antifreeze reaches the heat exchanger inside the tank,  water absorbs the heat from the heat exchanger and  it will be stored in the tank. Cold antifreeze again will flow through collector to absorb the heat. That process repeats itself  hundred of times during the day and the water temperature inside the tank  will rise from 20C0 up to 80C0  in a single day.

The Closed Loop systems are more complicated to compare with Open Loop systems due to implementation of few additional components such copper coil (heat exchanger) inside the tank, expansion vessel, special valves and ect. SPCL systems are suitable for areas with questionable water quality and all climate conditions and are the most preferred option for extremely cold areas.

SPCL systems are suitable for a single and multiple solar heating applications such:

  • hot water supply  for domestic or commercial use  or

  • hot water supply  for central heating system or

  • hot water supply  for under floor heating or

  • hot water supply  for swimming pool heating.
